use edge network for calls much more stable. Turn 3G on when on the web.

I was tearing my hair out but the 2.1 update seemed to fix all my issues even though I was very skeptical.

I think it is the itune's software. I have first gen phone and have all the same problems. It happens after I connect to iTunes. Plus now iTunes crashes all the time now. Less app. crashes but more tourble with the iTunes app.

Try turning off 3g when not using apps or the Internet. Calls works much better on edge and will save your battery.

I haven't really had my iphone long enough to experience such annoyances. Is this really something I should look out for?

it is not the iPhone with the problem. It is the ATT 3G network. My win mobile phones drop as much or more than my iPhone. After 9 months of win mobile 3g drops I am beyond positive it's the network and not phone specific. Have a nice day!
