Iphone battery Rip-off updated

Description

They want me to pay 199.00 for a new battery. I called today to see how much a new battery for my first gen iPhone woulb be. They said 199.00, but tried to make me feel better because they were going to give me an eight gig. Instead of my four back. Sounds like there trying to force me to decide just to get the new 3g. When I asked when I first got the phone they said a new battery was 79,99. I know prices have gone up but come on. Real big deal to me is my friend put stuff on the back of my phone and it means tons to me. Because now I do not see her anymore. If I was still in warranty it would be free they said. But I am twenty days out. All I can say is they just left a nasty taste in my mouth. Post note I know and thanks for the battery info. I more trying to let people see how apple is trying to move people to the 3g. Which I think cost more a year. Post note 2 People if we don't say anything they can just keep doing this. It was like when banks started charging for atms. No one really complained in-till after the fact. Go to digg or where ever you can be heard and help me stop this. I feel it is wrong. We all know that the battery does not cost 199.00. I love apple stuff but lets be fear.

Here are to links from there site. I have copies to show what they say as of 11:15PM 9/25/2008

There it states that battery replacement is 79.99 plus shipping. Like I said are they forceing people to make the jump to the 3g phone. I was told today it was 199.00.
I am still working on this stopping at store tomorrow to see what they quote me.

I just checked the Att store it does cost more for the 3g service. 10.00 dollars a month. So 120.00 dollars a year plus taxes. It is not that much money but if you start adding. all those little things like fees and such up a year it adds up. I stopped smoking and so far in two months I have saved 465.00. So every little bit helps. I know to right now everyone is worried about the way things are going. So money is tight.

I called back today and they said it would be 79.00 plus shipping. So did my story work. Plus it was weird she ask for my email which they have never done before. I did write people in tech news with that address. Plus made sure to let me know the price was on the web site too. Well the problem of price is fixed or is it. If Anyone else that sees this has been told 199.00 or has paid 199.00 let me know please in the comments. Plus if the Apple care rep was wrong I am Sorry. But I asked him several times what the price was. He said 199,00 and they would ship me an 8 gig phone instead of mine.

I just got an email from apple to sleepy to read now but will report 3:34 9/28/2008
Strange how apple started being all nice they must have a team that all they do is look for apple stuff on the net. Cause they do shut down things and stories and leaks real fast.

holdenc15:  Apple does not pretend it is our fault if one of there products go bad. My iPod touch was having problems so I took it up to the Apple Store and they gave me a brand new one; the best customer service I have ever seen.
If your not in the warranty things like replacing the battery could be expensive. I don't know why you wouldn't want the much better, 3G iPhone anyway.

keithlowery:  iplaid tomorrow I will check store if price is different I will ad to story

iplaid:  you should actually visit an apple store instead of calling. Their help desk might be more "helpfull"

    craigralph:  I meant "their fault"

  • Sep 25, 2008

craigralph:  I'm really sorry to hear this. Apple makes great products but when they go faulty, they pretend it is your problem rather than your fault.

scallopemi:  I seem to remember there being similar problems with iPod batteries a few years ago. As more people's batteries die and they try to get replacements I bet they'll be forced to drop the price.

Evereddie52:  I ordered a battery 3 weeks back and installed it myself. Takes a little soldering and the battery cost 32 dollars including shipping check the net and follow the directions it's not difficult and worth the effort to keep your unit.

TEKWONE:  hey they have sites on the net where you get batteries cheap & will install them.
