On Wednesday May 6, the students at Northwest High School in Canal Fulton, OH orginized a walk-out protesting the fail of the operating tax levy, which has just been voted down for the 10th straight time. We are still operating on a 1996 budget.
Because "the community FAILED US," quoting junior Jessica Dudley, we will discontinue all sports and extracurrucular activities in the years. We would do it sooner, but the cost of getting out of the contract would be greater than what we will be paying. Meanwhile, during those three years, us students will need to pay $400 for the first sport, then another $200 for each one after that. Also, many classes have grown to over 30 students.
The students at Northwest had the walk-out mainly as a way to get the community talking. Voting was already over the day before, and since it failed, we just wanted the community to know what we thought of them.
The students had also put on two rallies and a community forum, in addition to the efforts of an official fundraising effort.

NazareanLion: Right on. Now I have a question. Did you know the public school system in this country is modeled after the Prussian system? Designed to produce managers and the managed. Forming young minds into obedient, controllable, conformists that think en masse and buy on command. Check out the essay titled 'Against School'. It's written by a former NYC teacher of the year. Best of luck to you!
